HOW
TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT SONG FOR YOUR FIRST DANCE
Many
of the couples who hire us already have "their song"
… they heard it on their first date, or it was playing
when they had their first kiss, or it came from their favorite
movie. Maybe you fall into this category. Or do you and
your fiance need a little help with this decision? After
all, there are only a zillion great songs to choose from!
As you listen and search for the perfect song, remember
that there is only one factor that really matters: you both
should love the song. It will be "your song" for
the rest of your married life together. Now, having said
that, let's explore how we can help you.
1.
Whether or not you've chosen your song, don't worry about
the rhythm or how fast or slow it is or if it's a good dance
song. Our job is to teach you how to dance to it, no matter
what you pick, and trust me, we've had some doozies.
2.
Consider whether you prefer a slow romantic song or something
lively. They are equally easy to learn.
3.
You are not limited to only one song! We've had plenty of
couples do routines written for a 2 song medley. Start out
with your favorite slow song, then surprise everybody when
the music suddenly switches to a totally different beat.
Or let the bride pick her favorite song and the groom pick
his. We'll create the musical mix and burn it onto a CD
for you.
4.
Pay attention to the lyrics. There are many love songs out
there that are quite sad if you listen to what they're saying.
Make sure the words express how you feel. Since the first
dance is shared by the bride and groom, a duet is a nice
choice because both the man and woman are singing to each
other.
5. Try not to wait until the last minute to choose your
song. The better you know your song, the easier it will
be for you to dance to it.
6.
Some couples know the dance they want to do but don't know
which music to use. We get calls from couples saying, "we
want to do tango at our wedding … or salsa …
or waltz …" If this is you, then we will be happy
to provide you
with song suggestions.

Go to the Tips & Songs link on our website. There's
no way we can list all the songs our clients have danced
to, but these may give you some ideas. At the bottom of
our Songs page, there's a link to another website that has
hundreds of songs and sound bites. Good luck!
